Founded in 2014 by Fadi Eid, JamJar Canteen began as a humble “hole-in-the-wall” on Commercial Drive with a mission to simplify Lebanese cuisine while fostering community connection. Inspired by the traditional Lebanese gesture of showing affection through food, the restaurant popularized the concept of “folk Lebanese” dining in East Vancouver.
Over the years, it has evolved from its original intimate space into a vibrant, larger location on the corner of 7th Avenue, remaining a cornerstone of the neighborhood’s diverse culinary landscape.
The menu at JamJar Canteen focuses on fresh, from-scratch Middle Eastern flavors, specializing in customizable bowls, wraps, and mezze platters. Signature items include their “Makali” deep-fried cauliflower tossed in pomegranate molasses, yogurt-marinated chicken shish tawouk, and a rotating trio of house-made hummus.
